June 2025 Article Alert

At Marketing Wiz, our team actively monitors global financial markets to contextualize relevant stories for our clients and their stakeholders. This June, here are three themes that can serve as the foundation for a custom long-form article on behalf of your firm:

Big Beautiful Bill: Tax Legislation Passes House, Heads to Senate

  • Trump’s landmark ‘big, beautiful bill’ narrowly passed the House last month after a string of last-minute changes. Now it heads to the Senate, where negotiations over taxes and healthcare will continue.

  • As written, the bill would make tax cuts from Trump’s first term permanent, while also increasing state and local tax deductions to $40,000. The bill could also end taxes on tips and overtime, a Trump campaign promise.

  • Nonetheless, a vocal minority of Republicans have criticized the bill for expanding the deficit and raising the debt ceiling. Increased borrowing and spending could also lead to a revolt in the bond market, as investors demand higher yields on Treasury securities.

Courtroom Drama: Trump’s Tariffs Under Threat

  • In order to implement his sweeping tariff agenda, President Trump has relied on a legal loophole granting the executive broad powers to regulate imports during a national emergency. Recent court decisions, however, could place that loophole under threat.

  • ‘Relying on precedents that blocked Biden-era initiatives, the US Court of International Trade determined that Trump’s tariffs are too impactful to bypass Congressional approval. However, an appeals court ruled that the tariffs could stay in place until a challenge is heard.

  • With the case likely to escalate to the Supreme Court, Trump’s tariff agenda hangs in the balance. This courtroom drama will only add to the uncertainty plaguing global markets and the economy, especially as the US negotiates trade deals with other countries.

Labor Issues: Economic Strength Masks Job Market Slowdown

  • Despite fears about a tariff-induced slowdown, the US economy has been surprisingly resilient to start the year. Consumer spending remains strong and corporate earnings growth has defied expectations.

  • Recent data points in the labor market, however, point to storm clouds on the horizon. Last week, continuing jobless claims hit their highest level since 2021, with survey data showing that jobs are becoming much harder to get.

  • Despite these figures, the headline unemployment rate remains historically low at just 4.2%. With several labor market data releases set for the first week of June, investors should gain additional clarity on the true resilience of the labor market – and thus of the US economy.
