At Marketing Wiz, our team monitors global financial markets to help advisors contextualize the latest trends for their clients. This October, here are three themes that can serve as the foundation for a custom long-form article on behalf of your firm:

Balance of Power: What the Midterms Could Mean for Markets

  • With the US midterm elections just a month away, Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress. Prediction markets are pricing in a Democratic sweep, although Wall Street policy analysts expect a split Congress.

  • For markets, the most important question is fiscal policy. A divided Congress would likely produce legislative gridlock, limiting new spending and potentially undermining growth. Still, slower spending could help ease pressure on America’s growing debt burden.

  • The election could also shape the AI build-out, with data center construction becoming an increasingly contentious issue for voters. A Democratic sweep could slow approvals for new projects, adding further risks to the AI trade.

Paying the Price: Corporate Borrowing Costs Climb to Multi-Year Highs

  • Amid a global bond sell-off, the 10-year Treasury yield recently hit nearly 5.35%, its highest level in over two decades. That’s putting strain on corporate borrowers, with the average yield on investment-grade US corporate bonds climbing toward 6%.

  • The strain is most acute for companies on the lower end of the credit spectrum, with borrowing costs for CCC-rated bonds reaching 17%. Risk premiums for these companies have also widened to roughly 12 percentage points.

  • Looking ahead, a looming refinancing wall could mean years of elevated interest costs. Maturities of US non-financial corporate bonds are set to rise to more than $1 trillion by 2030, potentially forcing firms to refinance at significantly higher rates.

Opening Bell: Anthropic Prepares for a Landmark AI IPO

  • Anthropic is preparing an initial public offering that could value the company at more than $2 trillion, according to the company’s leaked prospectus. That figure would exceed the $1.77 trillion valuation SpaceX achieved in its blockbuster June debut.

  • The prospectus offers a rare look at the economics of frontier AI. Anthropic’s revenue grew 12-fold in 2025 to nearly $4.6 billion. However, operating losses widened to $8.06 billion as compute and infrastructure spending tripled.

  • The company’s listing is expected sometime in November and will serve as a key test of public market enthusiasm for AI. With OpenAI expected to follow by early 2027, Anthropic’s valuation could become a benchmark for the wider sector.
